The AppleCheeks 2 Size System Review

Description
A 2 size system that allows you to either stuff the envelope cover to use as a pocket diaper, or lay the insert on top of the cover to become an AI2 (all in two) diaper. It has a polyurethane laminated polyester (PUL) outer shell and a micro-fleece liner. The inserts are made of either hemp or bamboo (we tested the bamboo), and it has a snap closure.

What We Love About Them

  • Many colours to choose from
  • Can get either hemp or bamboo inserts (we tested the bamboo)
  • The inserts dry quickly
  • When using it as a pocket diaper, the inserts come out in the wash so you don’t have to take them out
  • The opening to stuff the pocket is in the middle….making it easy to put the insert in.
  • With the two rows of snaps you can have the legs and tummy at different settings.
  • The diaper has a lower rise so it looks really trim under clothes and still contains any messy bowel movements
  • There is elastic at the top of the front and back of the diaper, making it more comfortable for the baby

What we could do without

  • The fleece lining pills right away, making the inside look really old (it is still soft though)
  • The inserts need to be folded in thirds before putting it inside the diaper
  • If the diaper leaks, it usually leaks through where the snaps have been put into the PUL
  • The leg openings seem a little tight on the size 1 if it is suppose to fit a baby up to 20 pounds (my 16 pound baby is getting red marks on his leg when at the largest leg setting)

Victoria’s verdict
Great diaper. I love the different colours available and the look of the diaper (especially the label on the back that says “AppleCheeks Made in Canada”)! I have had a few leaks with the diaper but only because my baby had peed more than I had expected and the insert was soaked. By adding a booster I wouldn’t have had that problem. The only thing that would make this diaper better is a different micro-fleece that didn’t pill.
