Bum Genius All in Ones Review

Description
The Bum Genius All in One is the closest to a disposable diaper I have tried. They are sized just like disposables and are truly a one step diapering system. The outer shell is made of a waterproof PUL and the inner soaker pads are a suedecloth microfiber that are designed to keep baby dry.

Cost: $19.95

Sizes
Extra small: 6-12 lbs
Small: 8-16 lbs
Medium: 15-22 lbs
Large: 22-30 lbs

*I find that these diapers fit small, so you can use them a couple of pounds earlier than the manufacturer suggests - my boy was in Mediums at 13lbs and 3 months

What we love about them
*easy one step system, just wear, toss in the diaper pail, and wash
*very trim, fit easily under clothes
*microsuede wicks moisture away from baby
*soft and very absorbent
*Stretchy tabs help the diapers fit really well

*I have had no leaks with these

What we could do without
*these take FOREVER to dry - by far the biggest downfall of the diaper - they take at least 2 sunny days on the line (good luck in Canada) or 140 minutes in the dryer
*velcro tabs get pilly and stain after a few months of use
*long wash time - manufacturer recommends a pre-wash, a cold wash, hot wash, and a double rinse
*microsuede does hold a smell if these are not washed diligently according to manufacturer's instructions

Brooke's verdict
I definetely had a 'honeymoon' phase with these diapers as they were the first cloth diaper I tried, and I really love them for their ease of use, trimness, and ability to contain blowouts - like I said earlier, I have never had a leak with these.

However, the washing and drying are energy consuming and cumbersome. After a few months of these diapers I was on the hunt for something with comparable function that would be more energy friendly. Also, they are a bit hard to find in Canada, especially if you are buying online as many manufacturers will not ship these to Canada.

Victoria's verdict

Like Brooke, these were the first diapers I tried and as a result of the success I had with them containing blowouts, not leaking, and looking good under clothes I realized I wanted to continue to cloth diaper. I love the stretchy tabs because they help get a great fit on my baby but I am not a huge fan of the velcro. I had a problem with the velcro but as a result of the great Bumgenius warranty I ended up getting new diapers to replace my old "defective" ones.

After using these diapers for a couple weeks I started looking for a different diaper because of how long these diapers took to dry and also wanted a diaper with snaps rather than velcro. I would recommend these diapers to anyone who was interested in cloth diapering because they are so easy to use.
